Genetic Polymorphism of DGAT1 gene in Cattle

The frequencies of DGAT1 polymorphism at amino acid position 232 were analysed in Czech Spotted cattle, Czech Red, Czech Black and White, German Holstein, Brown Swiss, and Jersey. Around the DGAT1 gene assigned to a bovine chromosome 14 close to the centromere, a few polymorphisms were found (Winter et al., 2002), out of which that on the position 10433-4 in exon 8 codes for alanine or lysine. The lysine coding variant is probably the original state of DGAT1. In the early domestication, the substitutionhas materialised. The enzyme coded by the DGAT1 locus takes part on the triglyceride synthesis as a basic component of fat incl. fat of cow's milk. Recently a few studies has been carried out to determine the influence of alanine - lysine variants on the fat content milk. According to our results, the bulls with genotype LL possess higher breeding value for fat yield +24,0kg, AA bulls 3,9kg fat (+0,29 or -0,25) and protein (+0,07 or -0,13) percentage.
