Česká červinka na prahu roku 2007

  • Original language description

After 1990, the staff of the Department of genetic, animal breeding and nutrition of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, initiated the process of the regeneration of Czech Red cattle, the original regional cattlebreed of Czech lands. The ongoing process began with the absorptive crossing of Czech Pied cattle with Czech Red bulls, which led to the increase of female part of population over the numbers corresponding with the size of critically endangered breed. The situation in male part of population is less favourable with critical lack of bulls, which slows down the regeneration process. According to the exquisite assumption of meat production, but with worse results of milk efficiency, the breeding of cows without market milk production seems to be the best way. The most reliable design, which ensures the perspective of sustained preservation of the precious genotype of Czech Red cattle, consists in union of the regeneration processes of Czec
