The effect of crossbreeding Polar foxes from Polish and Scandinavian varieties on reproductive traits
Original language description
The aim of the experiment was to examine to what extent the import of animals from Scandinavian countries affected the reproductive performance of females of the Danish, Finnish and Norwegian varieties in Polish conditions. The groups of imported femaleswere compared to the Polish variety. The analysis covered the prolificacy of females, number of cubs weaned and the mean body weight of cubs at weaning. The results obtained for the rearing of cubs confirmed that female foxes of the Danish and Finnish varieties did not adapt sufficiently to the Polish environmental conditions, while the Norwegian variety demonstrated better adaptation abilities.
