The effect of genotype on coat traits in Arctic foxes during summer and winter season
Original language description
The aim of this study was to define whether origin of Arctic foxes and season of collecting samples influence physical traits of guard and dawn hairs and coat density. The material for investigations consisted of hair samples collected from several Arctic fox varieties: Polish, Danish, Finnish, and 4 groups of crosses. All animals were kept at one farm. Hair samples of the winter and summer coat were collected over three consecutive years. There were found no significant differences between the Polish,Danish and Finnish varieties as regards the physical properties of hair, but such differences were observed between groups of crossbreds. The origin of foxes had a varied effect on the coat quality of Arctic foxes.
