The landscape memory as a basis for planning and sustainable development of the territory

  • Original language description

Man has always been forced to understand the nature and the landscape to survive. The original European mainly forested landscape was by gradual settlement and cultivation transformed into the predominantly urbanized territory. Consequently there were created numerous types of different landscape according to the degree human use, from a completely natural landscape, to the completely human transformed one. The intensity of human impact has been given to the historical development of a specific territory and it was largely restricted just to his natural conditions. The main reason for studying the historical development of the landscape is the fact that by understanding the past, we can better understand future conditions for development. For this study three cadastral areas in the south of the Czech Republic were chosen. As a methodological basis for earlier territory arrangement maps of earlier cadastral records from the 19th and 20th centuries were chosen. Based on these data and historical sources such as chronicles or historical photographs not only landscape arrangement was reconstructed but also the appearance and layout of residential structures. Thus generated data layer then serves as a basis for sustainable development in the area and related landscape planning in the form of urban planning, land consolidation or landscape restoration and reclamation works. We will present examples of how the historical formation of territories and applications of the analysis can be used in landscape planning for sustainable development of the agricultural landscape.
