Original language description
This study deals with the impact of quality of colostrum on calf passive immunity. Colostral immunity represents important milestone in calf life which decides about immunity of organism in early phases of its life. The first part deals with the nutrition of calves, mainly focused to the colostral period. Diseases of digestive and respiratory tract that occur often in calves in the period from birth to weaning and cause huge economic losses are characterized in the second part of the study. Chapters in the third part describe the methods of the evaluation of colostrum quality and the level of passive immunity in calves. The experiment was carried out on 179 calves. Unfortunately, the statistical correlation between the specific weight of colostrum and the total protein level in serum was not statistically proven. The significance level was above P > 0.05. The closing part describes results of the study and recommendations related to the farm.
