Eucharist for the Remarried and the Worldwide Church

  • Original language description

In some local churches after the second Vatican council the praxis of confession was abandoned. At the same time the idea was spread that all the baptized Catholics are allowed to receive Eucharist. Proposal of the Upper Rhine bishops from the beginning of nineties that remarried divorced are allowed to receive Eucharist was discussed on the level of worldwide church during the Synod on the Family 2014–2015. In his apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia pope Francis admitted the sacramental help for divorced and remarried persons and in Acta Apostolicae Sedis he published the norms of Argentinian bishops that include this possibility.
