Fonseca’s Halfway Reductionism of Internal Senses. In Light of Mastri and Belluto’s Critique
Original language description
The chapter deals with the issue of the number of the internal senses in the theory of Pedro da Fonseca, exposed in light of the critique of this theory that was worked out by the two eminent Baroque Scotists, namely by Bartolomeo Mastri and Bonaventura Belluto. It shows that from the point of view of Mastri and Belluto’s doctrine Fonseca’s theory of two really distinct interior senses (common sense and phantasy) is not entirely satisfactory. For the Scotists, as it was for Francisco Suárez, there is only a single interior sense, which is in charge of the variety of cognitive functions
