The current manuscript reports two worldwide studies of stereotypes about liars. These studies were carried out in 75 different countries and 43 different languages. In Study 1, participants responded to the open-ended question "How can you tell when people are lying?" In Study 2, participants completed a questionnaire about deception. Results reveal a dominant pan-cultural stereotype - that liars avert gaze. Other common beliefs are identified, international differences in deception stereotypes are documented, and a social control interpretation of those stereotypes is offered. /

Článek 2. celosvětové studie stereotypů lháře. Tyto studie byly provedeny v 75 různých zemích, ve 43 různých jazycích. Ve studii 1 zkoumané osoby odpovídaly na otevřenou otázku "Podle čeho můžete říci, že lidé lžou?" Ve studii 2 vyplňovaly dotazník o lhaní. Tyto studie odhalily dominantní pan-kulturní stereotyp: lháři odvracejí pohled. Autoři identifikovali další rozšířená přesvědčení o chování lháře a nabízejí interpretaci z pozic tzv. sociální kontroly.
