Conceptualization of mathematics at pre-school level has recently become one of the focal points of research in mathematics education. This paper discusses the link between two issues related to institutional pre-school mathematics education. These are:How can we offer children in nursery schools a chance to discover mathematical concepts? What is the teacher?s role in this process? The theoretical framework for the study is Brousseau?s Theory of Didactical Situations.
