Since the beginning of 2020 we have been experiencing special circumstances, all over the world. The pandemic outbreak of Covid-19 has not only led to restricted physical contact, but has especially affected the leisure and tourism industry as a whole. As a result of the ongoing crises, most of the events have been forced to close and consumers are staying at home due to the shelter-in-place orders across the world. In other cases, events just had been postponed and reintroduce with additional safety measures. Furthermore, events undergone unthinkable transformation with the help of online media and support of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). The target of this paper is to unveil perceived value of AR/VR for tourism industry from the perspective of tourist user. The study also emphasizes the importance of authenticity, enjoyment and social presence. With the use of qualitative and exploratory approach, findings provide insight onto favorite AR/VR locations and applications. This study conducted fifty interviews with stakeholders with the goal to explore participants perspective on AR/VR technology in tourism. The research shows, that AR/VR technology is currently an experimental instrument within the tourism industry, however it holds a prospect to transfer travel sector as a whole. VR is progressing technology and so far, little research had been conducted on this new form of travel. Thus, the objective of this paper is to discover current status quo of VR and AR technology in tourism industry during the pandemic and its slow recovery measures.
