DEVELOPMENT OF WASTE PRODUCTION AND DISPOSAL IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND POSSIBILITIES OF THEIR FURTHER USE
Original language description
The rate of recycling and reuse of waste in the EUis increasing; however, the amount of waste generated perinhabitant is increasing. Food waste is one of the mainproblems in terms of ethical and social impact. This impactleads to food poverty, food insecurity and hunger. However,it also has a significant economic and environmental impactdue to over-consumption of natural resources andgreenhouse gas emissions. This chapter aims to map theproduction and management of waste in the Czech Republicwith a focus on the amount of waste and its development inthe agricultural-food complex, compared with other EUcountries and options for reducing waste. Although foodwaste represents about 2.5% of the total waste produced inthe Czech Republic, the reasons for solving this problem aremotivated by societal problems such as waste of resources, production of greenhouse gas emissions, impact on theenvironment and economic growth.
