Insight Into the Marker Assisted Breeding for Heat Tolerance in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Original language description
In the current scenario of climate change and global warming, it is critical to produce high-yielding rice cultivars that are also heat tolerant. Traditional breeding methods are time consuming and labour intensive. The alternative possible technique is Marker Assisted Breeding (MAB). Recent advancements in rice genomics research, as well as the completion of the rice genome sequence, are helpful in identifying genes and mapping genes using linkage analysis and DNA markers. One of the most promising ways is marker assisted backcrossing (MABC), which uses molecular markers to discover and select genes affecting resistance to diverse stressors. By integrating a gene of interest into elite varieties that are well accepted by farmers, MABC can help generate resistant, high-yielding, or high-quality rice varieties. The progress and recent improvements in the scenario of marker assisted breeding for heat tolerance in rice are discussed in this paper.
