Some applications of digital imaging in pond aquaculture biology
Original language description
Within the last decade, digital imaging has become a powerful tool of biological research. Processing and analytical possibilities offered by various digital imaging softwares depend above all on quality of the captured image which is particularly givenby resolution capacity of the digitizing device (digital camera, scanner, etc.) combined with the optical system used (various macro- and/or microscopic adaptors, microscopes, etc.). The basic operations enabled by the majority of softwares comprise adjustments of brightness, contrast, gamma, of colours composed, simple convolution and morphological filtering the images, creating stamps and annotations on the images. Special software applications are made above all for more sophisticated image processing, counting the particle population densities, manual or automatic analyses of dimensions, distances, shapes, colour densities, autoradiography; statistical and graphic processing of data and generation of reports.
