Study of fish sperm proteins using monoclonal antibodies

  • Original language description

The way of fish fertilization differs a lot from that of mammals. Outer fertilization is specific for the majority of chondrostean and teleostean fish. Spermatozoa are asually expelled into host mediumof the outher environment and the cells have to copewith an extremely different environment. The mechanism of penetration of the spermatozoa to oocytes is also very different in respect of mammalian fertilization. he goal of our project is to obtain new knowledge about the fertilization strategy between chondrosteans and teleosteans fish and to develop a sensitive method for the assessment of fish sperm quality. We are interested in in studying the sperm surface proteins of Cyprinus carpio (teleostean fish) and Acipenser baeri (chondrostean fish). Thesemodel organismswerechosen on the gound of phylogeneticaland morphological differences. Monoclonal antibodies against sperm proteins can be useful tools for the study of these proteins, as we know from our findings on the mammalian model.

Studie proteinů rybích spermií použitím monoklonálmích protilátek

  • Czech description

Cílem práce bylo získat znalosti o strategii fertilizace u chrupavšitých a teleostých ryb a stanovit citlivou metodu pro hodnocení kvality rybího spermatu. Pozornost byla věnována hlavně bílkovinám na povrchu spermií u kapra obecného a jesetera ruského.Tyto modelové organismy byly vybrány vzhledem ke svým fylogenetickým a morfologickým odlišnostem.
