A possibility to control of sward structure of extensive pastures

  • Original language description

The influence of the interaction of nutrition and utilisation frequency on the phytocenological relationships in pasture stands (Lolio-Cynosuretum) grazed by beef cattle was investigated in the years 1999 - 2002 in the Bohemian Forest foothills (670 m a.s.l.). On the basis of theoretical reconstruction of empirical data achieved by means of dynamic models and concerning the coverage of particular species and their groups, it was possible to prove that with the increase of the coverage of tiller-forminggrasses the competitive pressure on legumes was twice stronger than that found in tussock-forming grasses. Favourable development of Trifolium repens was found in all unfertilized grass growths though the required representation of legumes (20 - 25% D) was achieved only in stands grazed 3 - 4 times per year. The grassland fertilized with 100 N+PK displays larger occurrence of valuable grasses (Lolium perenne, Poa pratensis ) when compared to extensive pastures, but at the same time also a
