Adipokinetic hormone-induced enhancement of antioxidant capacity of Pyrrhocoris apterus hemolymph in response to oxidative stress

  • Original language description

The effects of oxidative stress on adipokinetic hormone (AKH) titre in the firebug Pyrhocorris apterus were tested using paraquat (PQ). Oxidative insult resulted in enhanced protein carbonylation and a depletion of glutathione (GSH) pool in the haemolymph. Interestingly, AKH titre was significantly enhanced in haemolymph, while its content in CNS showed non-specific changes in comparable period. Co-injection of AKH with PQ reversed these effects by decreasing protein carbonyl formation, increasing reduced GSH levels, and enhancing the total antioxidant capacity of cell free plasma. Our results indicate that there is a positive feed back regulation between an oxidative stressor action and the level of AKH in insect body, and that AKHs might be involvedin the activation of antioxidant protection mechanism.

Zvýšení antioxidační kapacity hemolymfy u Pyrrhocoris apterus indukované adipokinetickým hormonem jako odpověď na oxidační stres

  • Czech description

Za použití paraquatu (PQ) byl testován účinek oxidačního stresu na hladinu adipokinetického hormonu (AKH) u ploštice Pyrrhocoris apterus. Oxidační stres vyvolal zvýšení proteinové karbonylace a snížení zásob glutathionu (GSH) v hemolymfě. To bylo spojenos průkazným zvýšením AKH hladiny v hemolymfě, zatímco obsah AKH v CNS zůstal nezměněn. Injekce směsi AKH a PQ eliminovala tyto změny a zvyšovala oxidační kapacitu hemolymfy. Výsledky naznačují existenci zpětné vazby mezi oxidačním stresem a hladinou AKHa možné zapojení AKH do antioxidační ochrany organismu.
