Original language description
A new species of parasitic nematode, Philometra mexicana sp. n. (Philometridae), is described based on males and females parasitizing the gonads of the marine perciform fish Epinephelus adscensionis (Serranidae) off the coast of the southern Gulf of Mexico, Mexico. The new species is characterized mainly by very small males with equally long spicules and the gubernaculum without the usual dorsal barb on the distal end. Philometra mexicana is the fifth species of Philometra reported from the gonads of marine fishes in the West Atlantic region.

Czech description
Na základě samců a samic cizopasících v pohlavních žlázách mořské okounovité ryby Epinephelus adscensionis (Serranidae) u jižního pobřeží Mexického zálivu v Mexiku je popsán nový druh hlístice ? Philometra mexicana sp. n. (Philometridae). Nový druh je charakterizován hlavně velmi malými samci se stejně dlouhými spikulami a gubernakulem bez obvyklého dorzálního zubu na distálním konci. Philometra mexicana je pátým druhem tohoto rodu uváděným z gonád mořských ryb z oblasti západního Atlantiku.
