Parasite communities in eels of the Island of Reunion (Indian Ocean): a lesson in parasite introduction

  • Original language description

Eel populations from the small rivers on the Island of Reunion (French Overseas Department in the Indian Ocean) were investigated with respect to the occurrence and abundance of helminths during the autumn 2005. The native species Anguilla marmorata, A.bicolor and A. mossambica were studied, from which 6 species of helminths were recorded. Four of them were evidently nonnative, including the highly pathogenic nematode Anguillicoloides crassus recorded from all three eel species. Other introduced parasites were the monogeneans Pseudodactylogyrus anguillae and P. bini, and the cestode Bothriocephalus claviceps. Two African species, the nematode Paraquimperia africana and the acanthocephalan Acanthocephalus reunionensis, were also recorded.

Společenstva parazitů u úhořů ostrova Reunion (Indický oceán): příklad zavlečení parazitů

  • Czech description

Na podzim 2005 byly studovány populace úhořů v malých řekách ostrova Reunion (Francouzké zámořské území v Indickém oceánu) se zaměření na výskyt a abundanci helmintů. Byly vyšetřovány původní druhy Anguilla marmorata, A. bicolor a A. mossambica, v nichžbylo zaznamenáno 6 druhů helmintů. Čtyři druhy helmintů byly evidentně nepůvodní, včetně velmi patogenní hlístice Anguillicoloides crassus nalezené ve všech třech druzích úhořů. Dalšími zavlečenými druhy byly monogenea Pseudodactylogyrus anguillae a P. bini a rovněž tasemnice Bothriocephalus claviceps. Zaznamenány byly rovněž dva africké druhy, hlístice Paraquimperia africana a vrtejš Acanthocephalus reunionensis.
