Mixed infection of Galleria mellonella with two entomopathogenic nematode (Nematoda: Rhabditida) species: Steinernema affine benefits from the presence of Steinernema kraussei

  • Original language description

The study was focused on scavenging of two entomopathogenic nematodes S. affine and S. kraussei in hosts with different level of susceptibility to EPN infecion. Both nematodes were found being able to colonise both living and dead Galleria mellonella (Lepidoptera) and Blatella germanica (Blattodea) and dead Poecilus cupreus and wireworms (Coleoptera). By scavenging EPNs can utilize cadavers of insects that are naturally resistant to EPN infection and so broaden their host range. Possible mechanisms of the insect resistance to EPNs are discussed.
