Determination of molecular weights and correlations with the E4/E6 ratio
Original language description
Molecular weights Mn and Mw and ratio of absorbances at wavelengths 465 and 665 nm (E4/E6) of humic acids prepared from coal, oxyhumolite, lignite, peat, and chernozem from different localities in the Czech Republic were measured. Some samples were prepared from raw materials after their oxidation by nitric acid. It was used to determine molecular weights; they were determined by the UV/VIS spectrometry. Experimental results confirmed that the E4/E6 ratio decrease with increasing molecular weights, determined by SEC (size-exclusion chromatography). The E4/E6 ratios and molecular weights were further compared with other basic characteristics - total acidity, carboxyl groups content, carbon and oxygen content.
