Do cyanobacterial picoplankton exist in eutrophic reservoirs?
Original language description
During 1998-2000, abundance, biomass and species composition of autotrophic cyanobacterial picoplankton (CPP) has been studied in the Římov and Slapy reservoirs, Czech Republic. Four types of unicellular cyanobacterial picoplanktic species were identified since early spring. Their solitary way of life changed in early summer. Three species started to form small, later larger groups, while one species (.i.Synechococcus./i. cf. .i.capitatus./i. Bailey-Watts et Komárek) lived mostly as solitary cells during its appearance, forming short filaments only occasionally. Interaction between the unicellular and colonial forms was proved also in an experiment with dialysis bags performed in the Římov reservoir in 2000 with the nano- and picoseston assemblage (Komárková et Šimek, in press), where the colonies formation has been found in a treatment with ciliates and heterotrophic nannoflagellates.
