Cyanobacterial picoplankton and its colonial formations in two eutrophic canyon reservoirs (Czech Republic).
Original language description
Cyanobacterial picoplankton (CPP) was studied in a one year cycle in two canyon type reservoirs. CPP was present in both reservoirs during whole year, although in low numbers. CPP formed only 0.05-10% of the total biomass (fresh mass). Following morphotypes were found:Two rod-shaped .i.Synechococcus./i. species, one spherical type (2 m diam.) dividing in one plane (.i.Cyanobium./i.), and a spherical type (0.7 m diam.) dividing in two planes (.i.Synechocystis./i.). CPP formed single cells and small groups in the beginning, later also large colonies corresponding to the colonial genera .i.Aphanothece./i., .i.Cyanodictyon./i. and .i.Aphanocapsa./i.. Such life cycle occurred in all the morphotypes except for one (.i.Synechococcus./i. cf. .i.capitatus./i..Virtual picoplankton was about 2x more abundant in the Slapy reservoir, total CPP (virtual and in colonies) was about 0.4.10.sup.6./sup. cells in the maximum and 70-80.10.sup.3./sup. cells ml.sup.-1./sup. in the mean in both reservoirs.
