Economic Insight into International Armaments Cooperation
Original language description
International cooperation in armaments projects includes sharing of work among governments in research and development, system production and maintenance and repair. In case of a higher level of integration, governments might even share or pool their defense capabilities. International armaments cooperation is highly influenced by public nature of the goods of national defense and its centralization within given country. Therefore, besides technical and economic aspects, representing common driving force for other areas of human activities, international cooperation in armaments projects is also strongly influenced by political and security factors. The paper concentrates on key determinants of incentives for international sharing of works in armamentsprojects, in particular in relation to transaction costs. It defines the turning point where rational governments would share armaments projects burden with other nations. Furthermore, it categorizes individual items of transaction costs
