Transaction Cost in International Armaments Cooperation
Original language description
The aim of this paper is to examine and provide new evidence on changes in the costs of armaments projects shared by several national governments. In particular, the paper focuses on transaction costs and their components. Based on current transaction costs theory, the paper defines individual transaction costs and collective transaction costs, connected with the functioning of given weapon systems clubs. Using the results of an international survey, the paper further analyzes developments and dependences anticipated among variables, which are decisive for the resulting amount of given armaments project costs. The results of these analyses indicate general anticipation of decreased total project costs in case of international sharing of given armamentsproject, along with increased project transparency, which can be viewed as one of the important factors of decreased total costs.
