EDLC Super-Capacitors And Their Competitors
Original language description
The EDLC super-capacitor is very good electrical energy storage for short time high power delivery, but its energy density is lower then this one of electrochemical battery and its price is much higher. The capacitors with solid dielectrics have similaradvantages with much higher energy density, suitable for mobile applications, where the weight is limiting. Moreover the solid dielectric oppositely to electrolyte is safer and much higher voltage can be reached in one electrodes pair, without any serialconnections and such capacitors can compete not only with EDLC, but also with the electrochemical accumulators, which have life limited in hundreds of cycles. The nanotechnology in the near future promises the realization of such super-capacitors, mainly for automotive industry to prepare fully electric vehicle, and maybe later for photovoltaic energy storage, which can bring the real independence on the electrical energy distribution.
