Design of an Inertial Reference Unit with Mixed Gravitaional and Magnetic Correction of Gyroscopic Drift
Original language description
The Department of Aerospace Electrical Systems (Faculty of Military Technology, University of Defence) is traditionally interested in the field of development and design of the aircraft instruments. The developed Inertial Reference Unit (IRU) was originally based on the MEMS sensorial technology and designed to measure the position angles on the board of small or ultra-light aircraft, airships, unmanned aerial vehicles, but also on the board of different unmanned ground vehicles and robots. The measurement circuits of pitch and roll of the IRU were equipped only with gravitational correction, which is nevertheless sensitive to the motion acceleration. Recently it was decided to improve the precision of the IRU by means of mixed gravitational and magnetic correction of the gyroscopic drift, as the measurement of geomagnetic field components is not affected by the disturbing acceleration.
