    Mechanical properties of dental enamel after bleaching

  • Original language description

    The aim of this study was to characterize the effect of two different bleaching gels (with 22% carbamide peroxide and with 35% hydrogen peroxide) on the surface roughness and microhardness of enamel. For characterization of mechanical properties, non contact 3D profilometer Talysurf CLI 1000 with confocal gauge and microhardness measurement LECO LM 247 AT were used. The surface microhardness values did not show any significant changes for both gels. 3D surface roughness parameters showed that gel with 35% hydrogen peroxide caused bigger changes of enamel topography than gel with 22% carbamide peroxide. Surface roughness parameters (Spk, Sk and Svk) gave a very good assesment of the impact of the bleaching gels on the enamel.
