The paper deals with an introduction to the term geospatial intelligence, known as GEOINT, and the role of geographic data and processes within GEOINT. It describes the fundamental elements and components of GEOINT and then focuses on the data and processes. The importance of current, consistent, complete and reliable geographic data is emphasized. The paper discusses the issue of sources, collection, analysis, storage and dissemination of geographic data. It also presents the GEOINT process and shows one of the current perspectives of the intelligence preparation of the battlefield.
