Analysis of Terminal-Ballistic Behaviour of Pistol Bullet Penetrating the Block of Substitute Biological Material
Original language description
The article presents an experimental and numerical approach to estimate ballistic limits of the pistol hollow point bullet of Action 5 cartridge penetrating the block of substitute biological material using wide range of the bullet velocities. The bullethas the expansion ability to increase its wound potential in case of reaching the specific limit impact velocity. The expansion process of the bullet and the process of the evolution of the temporary cavity in the substitute material are investigated. Influencing factors of the penetration process are discussed as well. The aim of the FEM simulation of the penetration process based on experiments is also to estimate the minimal substitute material thickness to achieve the maximum expansion effect whenimpacting the aircraft fuselage structure by firing on-board. Introduced are three levels of expansion limit defined as the bullet velocity. The first one is low expansion limit, when the expansion dimension of the front part of the bulle
