Development of New Thermographic Non-destructive Inspection Method Using Contact Heating by Means of Thin Film Resistive Element
Original language description
Utilization of relatively thick composite skins is typical for present-day generation of combat aircraft. A non-destructive inspection method must be used for routine inspections of these large-area aircraft skin panels which are considerably sensitive to damage caused by impact of foreign object. The active infrared thermography is one such suitable method. This paper deals with the development of new thermography concept, using the contact heating by means of thin film resistive element. The method capability to detect subsurface defects in composite samples of carbon/epoxy was verified and the influence of heating parameters on the method sensitivity was studied. It can be stated that the method proved to be capable of detecting even relatively small subsurface defects.
