THE STANAG 6001 PROFICIENCY LEVELS AND STEVEN KRASHEN'S STAGES OF SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION: A COMPARATIVE REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
Original language description
NATO STANAG 6001 is an agreement that establishes six language proficiency levels for service-related personnel in member states. Accordingly, personnel are evaluated and the foreign language curriculum implemented according to this agreement. The theoryof Second Language Acquisition (SLA) is a model developed by Dr. Steven Krashen to describe how the process of language learning or acquisition occurs. Dr. Krashen's theory includes a scale of acquisition whereby we can gauge a student's progress. Thispaper seeks to compare and contrast the STANAG 6001 proficiency levels and the SLA Stages of Acquisition.
