Theory of the Internal Combustion Engine Cycle with the Thermochemical Model of Combustion

  • Original language description

The paper is focused on the development of a thermochemical mathematical model describing the internal combustion engine cycle. The objective of the paper is to derive governing equations describing both compression-ignition and spark-ignition engine cycles that differ by boundary terms. The thermochemical model of combustion enables us to determine the in-cylinder burning gases composition during the entire cycle. Thus, we can obtain the exhaust gases composition and quantify the combustion efficiency. The presented mathematical model of engine cycle based on the thermochemical kinetics represents significant progress compared to an empirical-phenomenological approach.
