PRELIMINARY STUDY OF THE DEPENDENCY OF VEHICLE CHARACTERISTIC ON VCI
Original language description
The trafficability is the ability of soil to support vehicles - not to mire. It is evaluated by comparison of two indexes - the index of soil RCI and the index of vehicle VCI. If the RCI is higher than VCI the vehicles are able to overcome the terrain. The soil index is measured by the Trafficability Test Set. This set consist of penetrometer and remolding test set. You cannot influence the value - it is depended on the soil type, humidity, etc. The VCI is the vehicle index - the most used military vehicles have determined its VCI, but you can count it as well. In this paper the author focused mainly on the vehicle index. It is dependent on the weight, clearance, tires, engine, etc. The aim of this work is to find out, how the vehicle characteristic influence the value. Each element of the formula is judged in its limits and the result is evaluated in percentages. The result of this work shows how the characteristic of vehicles influence its trafficability. And all this makes it possible to improve the ability of negotiation low trafficable terrain and thus increase mobility of the troop’s vehicles.
