Influence of alloying elements on the properties of diffusion layers

  • Original language description

The paper is devoted to a research focused on the influence of alloying elements on the properties of diffusion layers created on selected low-carbon, low-alloyed steels equivalent to 18CrNiMo7-6, 15NiCr13, 17Ni4CrMo (i.e. CSN 41 6220, CSN 41 6426, CSN 41 6720). Plasma nitriding (PN) and nitriding in gaseous atmosphere (GN) were utilized for a creation of the surface layers. The aim of the research is to find a dependence of hardness of the surface layers on an amount of selected alloying elements contained in steels. Therefore the following methods were chosen for the experiment. The chemical composition was confirmed by utilizing optical emission spectrometer Tasman Q4. The microstructure of the steels was observed by utilizing Opto digital microscope DSX500i. The same instrument was also utilized for an observation and thickness measurement of the compound layer. The microhardness measurements were performed on universal microhardness tester LM247 AT LECO. The experimental results show the dependence of hardness of the diffusion layers on content of carbides and nitrides creating alloying elements.
