    Influence of alloying elements on the microhardness profiles of nitride layers

  • Original language description

    The paper deals with the effect of alloying elements upon the microhardness profiles of nitride layers. Two types of nitriding were utilized for the experiment. Plasma nitriding and gas nitriding were applied on selected case-hardening steels for a reason to verify, whether the chemical composition of the case-hardening steels is appropriate for this chemical-heat treatment technology. The experiment consist of methods including verification of chemical composition by utilizing optical emission spectrometry, the microstructure observation and measurement of microhardness profiles in accordance with ISO 18 203:2016. The microhardness profiles were used for determination of the influence of alloying elements such as Cr, Mo, W, Ni on microhardness of the nitride layers. The results show benefits and drawbacks connected with a presence of the alloying elements in the steels.
