Evaluation of the Possibility of Adopting Existing Construction for Purposes of Design an Unmanned Ground Vehicle
Original language description
The main purpose of an unmanned ground vehicle is to provide protection to personnel and staff, i.e., to minimize the risk of loss of life and the occurrence of injuries. This article focuses on one of the possible approaches to the design of the construction of an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) designed to carry a payload of 500 kg. The means which comply with this requirement can be in military employed for purposes of effective logistic support of infantry units, for evacuation of the wounded, and for installation of remote control weapon station, where the weapon of maximum caliber of 12.7 mm is mounted. Moreover, it can be used for rescue services in non-military application. The article is primarily addressed to the assessment of the possibility in the design phase of the construction of an unmanned ground vehicle body to base on the construction of commercially available means which is designated for different purposes, or to adopt the entire construction of this means and rework it into a UGV. This article offers an overview of vehicles for both categories (wheeled and tracked), which would be convenient in terms of the passability requirements demanded, the minimal load capacity, and the stability. For each type, an assessment of the possibilities of its modification to the chassis of an autonomous robotic vehicle is offered.
