COMPARISON OF LANGUAGE SYLLABI DESIGN IN MILITARY EDUCATION
Original language description
The study focuses on identifying and comparing different approaches to English language syllabus design in six NATO countries. The majority of the courses discussed in this study culminate in language examinations of a very high-stakes nature; thus, the course syllabi are exclusively product-oriented and teacher-led. In almost all workplaces, in-house teachers worked in teams to create syllabi for courses at all proficiency levels. The collaborative effort to create syllabi at the various institutions was characterized by mutual trust, open communication, and the creative input of all team members. The course designers took the learners’ entrance level, previous syllabus, facilities and resources available at the institution, exit requirements, and the length of the course into consideration when creating the syllabus. Overall, the research shows that the syllabi in the studied countries were designed in very similar ways; however, slight differences remain.
