Mental Resilience - Experiences from Training
Original language description
The University of Defence is specific because it deals with the complex preparation of military professionals for the needs of the Czech Army - not only teaching but also training. And more and more recently, the problem that incoming students are not as mentally resilient as they used to be is being discussed. Is the new generation really different and in what way? Is there a need to adjust the training? The purpose of this paper is to describe a few of the specific types of training that teachers of Department of Engineer Technology trains and to describe if and what changes have occurred in training over the past twenty years. The teachers in this department are not psychologists, so they will not analyse the situation, but they describe their findings and suggest recommendations that they themselves, based on lessons learned, have had to involve in their training. Resilience can be built up over time, and one way to increase it is by exposing yourself to potentially critical situations. And although training is not favoured, it is necessary for gaining not only experience but also mental resilience. And this can help the others, so that they can change or modify their learning and training.
