Nanofiber micro-dispersed oxidized cellulose as a carrier for topical antimicrobials: first experience

  • Original language description

Micro-dispersed oxidized cellulose (MDOC) might be helpful for introduction of an antimicrobial drug. The aim of the experimental study was to examine the effect of topically apllied gentamicin attached to MDOC in micro- and nanofiber form for treatmentof acute wound inefctions. A model of a full-thickness infected dermal wound was created in 12 female domestic pigs and the effectiveness of topical gentamicin with MDOC in acute wound infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli was tested. Based on macroscopic assessment and culture findings results we proved good effectiveness of MDOC with a sufficient concentration of an antibiotic in the treatment of full-thickness wound infections.
