Evaluation of gas detector tubes for TIC used by the ACR
Original language description
The thesis looks into objective evaluation of characteristics of selected gas detector tubes designated for detection of toxic industrial chemicals presence in gaseous and vapour forms, that are if needed used by the Army of the Czech Republic. Gas detector tubes sourced from Oritest producer (Prague, Czech republic) were studied, more precisely tubes for the detection of chlorine (detector tube DT-003), hydrogen sulfide (DT-006) and am-monia (DT-008). As an applicable objective method for the study of coloration changes of indication layers of gas detector tubes remission spectrophotometry, or more precisely tristimulus colorimetry based on evaluation in the CIE-L*a*b* space had been chosen. Suitable conditions for the measurement of gas detector tubes coloration changes were studied and optimized by UltraScan PRO spectrophotometer and special detector tube holder. The limits of detection, response time of the indication layer to the presence of analyte and coloration stability were verified. Likewise the possibilities of quantification of the measurement by means of gas detector tubes were analyzed by looking for concentra-tion intervals in which the dependence of total coloration change of the indication layer to the concentration of analyte showed mathematical function. Ascertained outcomes were then compared with values declared by the producer. For the comparison of parameters were also studied gas detector tubes produced by relevant foreign producers – Dräger (Germany) and Gastec (Japan). Finally a systematic procedure was created for the objective evaluation of quality of gas detector tubes produced by home producer by possible delivery taking of mentioned tools for detection of toxic industrial chemicals for the needs of the Army of the Czech Republic.
