    Information systems for food safety and traceability and the situation in the Czech Republic

    Food safety and traceability are key topics in the European Union agro-food sector and legislation. Due to the fact that there are many players in the agro-food market in the EU there must be well organized communication systems among farmers, retailers,government authorities and consumers in order to ensure trust and quality of products and to protect consumers in short period of time. The paper gives quick overview of the situation of deployment of information systems for food safety and traceabilitysupport in the Europe and in the Czech Republic. Points where ICT could remove inefficiencies and improve the food safety and traceability are seen in: tracing products at the system, reducing costs of implementation of process controls in the enterprise and in faster and more precise data exchange among food sector subjects and state supervisory authorities based on common data formats and information services.
