Public expenditures on education - Comparison of EU states
Original language description
Education plays the key role in economic development. In the European Union, everyone emphasizes the fact that education should be a priority for all the countries in order to deal with the current economic situation. Our findings show a declining trendin public expenditures in terms of the total government expenditure. Public expenditures (% of GDP) are increasing. It means that other than budgetary sources are used. The decreasing pupil-teacher ratio in nearly all the states is a positive aspect. What is negative is the longterm decreasing value of expenditure per student in tertiary education which together with the increasing number of students might have a negative impact on the quality of education. At the same time, we were unable to prove anystrong relationship between the total public expenditures on education and economic growth.
