In recent years, people in the Czech Republic have increased consumption of biscuits, wafers and gingerbread and their interest in it continues to grow. The two largest producers of these delicacies control almost two thirds of the Czech market and Opavia CZ (Mondelez International) has become a dominant firm in the domestic market with a 37% share. Private brands, which include regional manufacturing firms protected by EU, also have significant market share. The aim of this paper is to characterize themarket competition and the market position of producers of these commodities, as well as predict future development of firms in the industry in relation to changes in consumer preferences.
