Transformation of Polish sugar market
Original language description
Poland and its sugar market represents very specific phenomenon among countries producing beet sugar. Polish sugar industry, as one of the few in the former Eastern bloc, survived its own clinical death. Despite significant reduction in the number of sugar factories from 76 (2001) to only 18 (2017), Polish sugar industry kept considerable production capacity. Main aim of presented contribution is to identify main trends and important specifics connected to Polish sugar industry development between 2000 and 2017. Polish market underwent significant restructuring that on one side resulted in significant reduction of amount of sugar refineries and sugar beet producers. On the other hand, it resulted in considerable concentration of production capacities among subjects that successfully passed the transformation phase.
