Sensitivity of Czech wheat production to climate change effects.

  • Original language description

According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, the total sown area of cereals has been declining for a long time and in 2019 it changed to the level of another 1,350,000 ha. Wheat occupies less than 800,000 ha. In terms of structure, winter wheat clearly dominates with a share of 60,2%, followed by spring barley 15,7%. Wheat is used mainly for food use, but also serves as a basis for feed mixture and for the production of biofuels. In addition to other agricultural and food products, they are also important export commodities. At present, the problem of crop cultivation is climate change or extreme fluctuations, which have a significant negative yield and economic effect. This new situation requires urgent preparation and implementation of adaptation and/or mitigation measures. Technological advancement in terms of breeding of new varieties tolerant to specific climate change requires a comprehensive determination of the combined action of genotypes and the cultivation environment.
