Using heterosis in oilseed rape: Current state and future
Original language description
A successful hybrid program requires two key components - (a) heterosis for yield enough to offset the increased cost of seed production and (b) secure, stabile and effective pollination control system. Development of successful hybrids in maize in 1930sprovides an important impetus for breeders of other crops to exploit the available heterosis by means of commercial hybrids in these crops. During the following years also in oilseed rape some hybrid systems were developed and are still improved - Gene tic Male Sterility, Chemical Hybrid Agents, Male Sterility Lembke (MSL), murCMS, Ogura, Ogu-INRA, Pioneer Male Sterility System, Polima, SeedLink, Self-Incompatibility, Zeneca Reversible Male Sterility System and other. The most successful of them world-wide are POLIMA, Ogu-INRA, MSL and SeedLink. For the real practice in nowadays Europe hybrid systems Ogu-INRA and MSL are the most important. Main hybrid varieties used in Europe are the following: Adelie, Artus, Betty, Bruno, Cocktail, El
