Pig production has to focus particularly on the following priorities: economy, quality, environmental issues, health condition and welfare of animals. In the Czech Republic the market production of pork amounted in 2001 to merely 2.94% of the market production of the EU Member countries. In this paper it should bee noted that following years will bee tough for the European breeders, including in Czech breeders.
