Concentration of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Cd, Hg) in feed mixtures, meat and lilver of rabbits
Original language description
Three commercial feed mixtures, produced by the main Czech rabbit feed manufacturers, were fed to Hyplus rabbits from 35 to 87 days of age. The mixtures (I, II, III) consisted of standard components (lucerne meal, wheat bran, sunflower meal, oats, barley, supplements#). Two manufacturers (II, III) add copper sulphate to their products at 20 - 30 mg Cu/kg. Concentrations of Cu, Pb, Cd and Hg in the three feed mixtures, meat and liver of rabbits (6 animals per group) were determined by means of the atomicabsorption spectrometry . Hepatic concentration of Cu was higher in rabbits fed Cu-supplemented feed. Concentrations of Cd un the liver were 4 - 6 times higher than those of Pb, although concentrations of these elements in feed mixtures were similar. Negligible concentrations of heavy metals were found in meat of the loin. Thus, it can be concluded that meat of rabbits produced in the Czech Republic is safe from the point of view of the heavy metals presence.
