    Plant production in ecological agriculture in the Czech Republic

    Production conditions in the ecological agriculture in the Czech Republic are stipulated by the Law No 242/2000 valid starting by the 1.1.2001, by the Decree of the Ministry of Agriculture No. 53/2001 and its update No. 263/2003, which corresponds to international standards put forth by IFOAM and to EU Regulation 2092/91 and 1804/1999. Czech organic farming is accredited by IFOAM as well as by the EU. The enclosure of the Decree No 263/2003 precises the list of agents and fertilizers permitted in systemof ecological production. According to information of KEZ (Inspection of organic farming, a public benefit company) in the Czech Republic totally 670 certified farms were producing on the area of 235 000 hectares (5.5 % of the farming land) in 2002. Themajority of ecologically cultivated land consists of pastures and permanent grass cultures. Only 9 % is arable land, on which oil plants are practically absent. This in spite of the fact, that foreign partners are delivering winter rape
